Advent is, if nothing else, a season of hope. We hope that Santa brings us what we want for Christmas. We hope that Uncle Tony breaks out a bottle of the good stuff on Christmas Eve and then loses the cap. We hope that Aunt Millie has lost the recipe to her infamous tuna and jell-o casserole (spoiler alert: she hasn't). And there's something about a child savior in there, as well. This year, we can all hope that life can get back to something resembling normal sometime soon (and a guilt-free normal at that). In the spirit of good hope, join Dizzy & Ges for a cup of cheer a wander through the many things we wish we could do, hope to someday do, and can't wait to get back to in the land of Christmas traditions in Episode 94 - The Advent Bucket List!
Episode 84 – Whirled Peas
It's peace week in Advent Land, and there couldn't be a better time for it! While "peace" might not be the first word that comes to mind when we think of the utter chaos of 2020, this may well serve as an important reminder that this is our annual opportunity to open up a bit of space for the Prince of Peace in our hearts. So grab a cup of something that helps you to relax, breathe deeply, and perhaps even chortle a "ho ho ho" so that you can join Dizzy & Ges for the celebration of St. Nicholas Day and Episode 84 - Whirled Peas!
Church Drunk Advent Calendar
Church Drunk has you covered with a Christmas Countdown unlike any other. Throughout the season, Dizzy & Ges will be posting our favorite Adventy quotes, songs, musings, and literary adventures, along with a weekly challenge designed to make your Advent overflow with hope, peace, joy, and love...and possibly (hopefully) bourbon!
Episode 83 – Hope vs. Nope
It's Advent 2020, and Christmas cheer has exploded onto the scene. Everywhere you look Bing Crosby seems to be puking red and green glitter onto everyone's front lawn earlier and louder than ever before. Obviously we need a bit of joy in our lives, and an inflatable snowman riding a reindeer into a candy cane castle is certainly preferable to the cardboard cut-outs of Depression and Isolation that might offer more accurate season's greetings this year. But wait! No, seriously...wait. Dizzy & Ges are here to remind you that in the midst of all this pre-joy, the real theme of the first week of Advent is HOPE. And that's a good one for 2020! So pour yourself a cup of something cheerful (but save the good stuff for later), and join us for Episode 83 - Hope vs. Nope
Episode 22 – Hope Floats
Advent has officially arrived, and 'tis the season to be hopeful! In this very special episode of Church Drunk, Dizzy and Ges roll out the barrel to see if hope really floats, or if Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. were just lying to us all.
We’ve seen fire and we’ve seen rain…
Since we wrapped up our most recent set of podcasts, things have fallen a bit silent here on Church Drunk. Sometimes life gets busy. And busy turns into crazy. And crazy turns into utter, incomprehensible insanity. And then, suddenly, life is very different than what it was before. It has been a month and a... Continue Reading →
Episode 15 – Nuns Kick the Habit
Do you ever wonder why it is called "Mother Church" when it so often refuses to give women their due as faith-filled motivators for positive change and all-around rock stars? So do we. In this episode, we do our best to recognize the amazing work of nuns and other women who lead the way toward a church where justice is at the top of the priority list.
Episode 9 – Eastertide!
In our final "official" episode of what we're gonna go ahead and call "Season 1" we find ourselves riding the Eastertide! Our 40 days of Lenten fasting have led us into 50 days of Easter feasting. This is our season of hope, gratitude, and resurrection. Let the wild rumpus begin!
Earth Day is Easter Day – March On!
The long trek of Lent is over, and now we arrive full-force in Eastertide. Watch out - the Catholics just got their Hallelujah back! If there's one thing we know about Easter, it is that the resurrection of Jesus was not simply an isolated event. When he rises, we are supposed to rise with him.... Continue Reading →
