Well folks, the long journey of Lent has led us here to Good Friday (which, for the thousandth time, is really not that good - perhaps someday we English speakers can join the billions of other people around the world who call it Holy Friday). It is a day of prayer and reflection and joining our own suffering to the ultimate sacrifice of Christ on the cross...and if you're Dizzy & Ges it is also a day for cocktails, because that's what most days are for. Join us here at Church Drunk as we tipple down that most well-worn of Catholic pathways - the Stations of the Cross.
Stations of the Cross Soundtrack 2018
It has been a long Lent. Generally speaking, I aim for daily practices of prayer and something that resembles discipline during these 40 days in the desert, but this has been a year of trial and tribulation and trauma and tragedy and...other stuff, many of which begin with other letters of the alphabet (B and... Episode 35 – March Madness!
So around this time every year a very famous college basketball tournament is played, and sure, it's full of "madness" - diaper dandies and buzzer beaters and rim rockers galore. But you know what's really "madness"? Climate change, that's what. And trade wars. And corporate greed. So with that thought in mind, Dizzy & Ges set out to create a new kind of March bracket, one that pits the forces of chaos against the calming remedies that restore order and peace to our lives. It's late in Lent. We're at our wits' end. Join us for Church Drunk March Madness!
Episode 34 – Saints on the March
Each year, all of us here at Church Drunk eagerly anticipate the arrival of March 17th. It is a day filled with drinking, singing, and general merriment, and at the heart of it all is one of the heroes of the Catholic Church. However, St. Patrick does not hold a monopoly on his little square of the calendar. With that thought in mind, join Dizzy & Ges in yet another installment of Drunk Lives of the Saints, and hopefully we will all learn a bit about who else celebrates a feast on March 17th...and how well (or how poorly) your humble hosts can hold their liquor.
Episode 33 – The Desert Fathers
Have you ever wanted to just pack up and get away from it all? Perhaps to somewhere nice like, you know, a cave in the middle of the desert? If your dream vacation is a rock for a pillow, gruel 3 meals a day, and naught but the Bible for wild and imaginative entertainment, then perhaps you've got a bit of desert father (or mother) in you! In this week's podcast, join Dizzy & Ges for a wander into the desert to get funky with St. Antony and the rest of the hermit horde.
Church Drunk’s Lenten Reading List Round 2
Last year, we rolled out a list of our favorite reads to get you through the long, lean days of Lent. For a couple of book nerds like us, the task was easy - choose five books from among dozens of titles that have made their way onto our list of favorites. This year, however, is a bit tougher.
Episode 32 – Rageousness Against the Machine
Still ravaged by The Flu, potato blight, and Lenten-induced shellfish allergies, Dizzy & Ges carry on through this most blessed season of prayer and penance. And how could they not, when the Sunday gospel reading dials up a heavy dose of messianic rageousness? It's practically international Church Drunk day when churchgoers around the world celebrate this most unique of all charisms. So flip over a table, grab a cocktail, and settle in for another episode of Church Drunk!
