Stations of the Cross Soundtrack 2018

It has been a long Lent. Generally speaking, I aim for daily practices of prayer and something that resembles discipline during these 40 days in the desert, but this has been a year of trial and tribulation and trauma and tragedy and…other stuff, many of which begin with other letters of the alphabet (B and S both come to mind readily). Don’t get me wrong here, I can’t really lay claim to any great suffering of my own, but it seems that I was too readily lost in the exhaustive malaise surrounding me, and my Lenten focus was about as sharp as a jellyfish.

And herein lies the beauty of Lent. The worse it gets, the better it is! The more we suffer, the more united we are with Christ on the cross. And along with that, the invitation to deepen our Lenten experience is always on the table, right up to the foot of the cross on Good Friday. With that thought in mind, we here at Church Drunk are happy to present to you the Stations of the Cross playlist for 2018. It’s become an annual practice for us, predating our blogging days, and last year we shared our first version of the playlist with the world. This year, we offer a new set of songs, and we invite you to find a few minutes of quiet in your day to musically wander the way of the cross with us (and literally millions of other Catholics around the world who will be praying the stations in their own way this week).

If you Spotify, here’s a full playlist you can use, but we definitely recognize that tastes in music are subjective. If you don’t like our choices, that’s totally okay (everyone has the right to be wrong once in a while). We encourage you to create your own playlist if these songs don’t speak to you, and we hope and pray that your Holy Week might be filled with God’s Spirit carrying us all beyond the cross and toward the joy of the empty tomb!
